A3 uses SNMP traps to communicate with equipment. A malicious user who wishes to generate a load that causes the generation of illegitimate SNMP traps. Occasionally, a switch can generate a large quantity of traps for an unknown reason. A limit the number of SNMP traps originating from a single switch port can be set. If more than a threshold of traps are received from the same port in a minute, the port will be shut down and a notification email will be sent.

Field Usage Example
Bounce Duration The delay between sending a shut and no-shut to a port. 4 seconds
Trap limiting Enables trap limiting, which is controlled by Trap Limiting Threshold and Trap Limit Action.

Trap Limiting Threshold The maximum number of SNMP traps that a port can send to A3 within a minute without being flagged. 100
Trap Limit Action The action that A3 will take if the Trap Limiting Threshold is reached. The actions are email and/or shut. The email alert will be sent every hour if the limit is still reached. The shut alert will shut the port and will also send an email even if email is not specified. email
