Configure a Bonjour Gateway

Bonjour is a protocol that Apple devices use to advertise available services within a VLAN/subnet. Extreme Networks devices can function as Bonjour Gateways and forward service advertisements across VLAN/subnet boundaries. Services in one VLAN or subnet then become available to users in other VLANs or subnets. See Bonjour Gateways and Bonjour Gateway Rules.

There are two places in the GUI where you can create a Bonjour Gateway profile.

From either location, you can define a Bonjour Gateway profile that specifies which VLANs the Bonjour Gateway scans and which services it shares with other Bonjour Gateways.

The elements of a Bonjour Gateway profile vary only slightly between the two areas where you can create it. Elements that are not shared are called out in the descriptions that follow.

Bonjour Gateway Settings: ON At the network policy level, you have the option to toggle Bonjour Gateway ON and OFF to enable and disable it.

Re-use Bonjour Gateway Settings: When configuring Bonjour Gateway in a network policy, you can reuse a previously configured profile. Select . In the Bonjour Gateway Settings dialog box, select the check box of one of the profiles in the list and then select Select. If you use this option, all fields are automatically populated with the information for the selected profile.

Name: Enter the name for the Bonjour Gateway profile that will be referenced when assigning it to a network policy.

Description: Add an optional note about the Bonjour Gateway profile.

Scan the following VLANs for services: Enter the VLANs that you want the Bonjour Gateway to scan for service advertisements. Use commas to separate multiple VLAN IDs (do not include a space after a comma) and dashes to indicate ranges. For example, to scan VLANs 1, 10, and 20-30, enter 1,10,20-30. The VLAN range coverage is [1-4094].

To add one or more Bonjour Gateway policy rules, select ADD, define the rules as described in Bonjour Gateway Rules, and then select Save.

Note

Note

You must add at least one filter rule to the Bonjour Gateway profile before you can save it.
