View, add, sort, select, modify, clone, and delete VLAN (virtual local area network) objects on this page.

View VLANs

In this window, you can see the VLANs currently configured on your network, add new VLANs, modify VLANs, and remove VLANs. Although you can manage VLANs from this window, it is recommended that you configure them in a network policy workflow. See Configure VLAN Settings.

The VLANs table displays the following information:

Name: The name given to the VLAN when it was created.

Used By: Indicates the number of objects referencing the VLAN. If the value is greater than zero, hover over it to display the list of referenced objects. You cannot delete a VLAN without first disassociating the referenced objects.

Add a VLAN

You can add a new VLAN here or from inside the network policy configuration workflow. To create a new VLAN here, select . In the New VLAN Object panel, enter the following information:

Name: Enter a name for the VLAN. It can contain up to 32 characters, and cannot include spaces. This field is required.

Default VLAN: Enter the default VLAN for this VLAN profile. Typically, the default VLAN is 1.

Apply VLAN to devices for classification: Select this check box to create VLANs that you can apply to specific devices based on their location. In the VLAN table, t and enter the following:

VLAN ID: Enter the new VLAN ID and select Add.

In the Classification Rules column in the VLAN table, do the following:

Select to create a new classification rule with the following attributes. Alternatively, you can select to copy or select an existing classification rule (by selecting a rule, and then clicking Link).

Name: Enter a name for the classification rule. The name can contain up to 32 characters and cannot have spaces. This is a required field. For easier tracking, you may want to add the location and device model using this VLAN classification rule (for example, VLAN-AP230-Sunnyvale).

Description: Enter an optional note for the classification rule. The note can contain up to 64 characters, including spaces.

Select to choose the device location. In the Location panel, assign the VLAN profile based on the location of managed devices, and then choose Select. When selecting a location, be sure to drill down to the level where the devices are actually located. For example, if the devices are located on the floor of a building, select the floor (rather than the building).

Select Save.

Select in the Assignment Description column to expand the menus and verify that the profile, associated VLAN profile, and VLAN device classifications are correct.

Modify a VLAN

To make changes to an existing VLAN, select the check box next to the VLAN that you want to change, and then select . When you are finished making changes, select Save.

Clone a VLAN

You can add a new object or profile by cloning an existing object or profile and then renaming it. Select the check box for the object or profile that you want to clone and then select . Enter the new name and then select Clone.

Remove VLANs

Before you delete a VLAN, check the Used By field, which contains the number of objects referenced by a VLAN. If the number is greater than zero, you cannot delete the VLAN without first disassociating the referenced objects. Hover over the number to see more details about the objects.

To delete a VLAN, select the check box next to the VLAN that you want to remove, and then select and confirm the deletion. To delete all of the VLANs in your network, select the check box in the header to the left of the page title, and then select and confirm the deletion.
