Manage > Alarms
This ExtremeCloud IQ window displays an alarm timeline, an alarm log and a list of active alarms. At the top of the window, the timeline is a graph that reflects the times of peak and low alarms during a seven-day interval. Underneath the timeline, the alarms log displays the actual number of alarms ("active" or "cleared") for the date and time range selected. (By default, displayed is the last 24 hours of alarm information in both the timeline and the log.) An alarms log provides a record of alarms that configured devices report to ExtremeCloud IQ through CAPWAP. The CAPWAP module running on the ExtremeCloud IQ generates CAPWAP alarms reported here. Alarms can indicate network issues that might require your attention. By default, the alarms timeline and log are organized chronologically from the most recent date and time to the earliest date and time. The information on this window is refreshed hourly, but you can select to manually refresh the window.
Note
CAPWAP is supported on APs and Extreme Networks SR2000 and SR2100 Series Switches only. The alarms timeline provides you with a graphical indicator of when and how many active alarms have been recorded by ExtremeCloud IQ. You can specify what class of alarms to include and alarms occurring within a specific time interval. To choose a specific time frame within the seven-day timeline, select a handle and slide the shaded interval window to the left or the right. For example, if you expand the shaded interval to the far left and far right, you can see up to seven days of alarm information.
All alerts recorded within a specific time frame are displayed in the Active Alarms table. The column heading descriptions, and how to use the search bar, are listed below.
View Active Alarms
Each alarm log entry contains the following:
Severity: Indicates if the alarm was major, minor, or informational
Category: Indicates the type of alarm such as an "Agent alarm", “Device disconnected” or “Change OS”
Description: Indicates a description of the alarm
Time Raised: Indicates alarm date and time
Host Name: Lists the host name of the configured device on which the alarm occurred
Device MAC: Indicates the MAC address of the device that reported the alarm
Client MAC: Indicates the MAC address of the client that reported the alarm
Action: Clear active alarm.
Within the alarm log, the column heading indicates the information type. For example, if you want to organize the alarms by the time and date, select the Timestamp heading.
To determine which columns are displayed in the Alarms List table, select to display the names of all the columns in the table. Then select or clear the check box next to a column name to display or hide a particular column. Your selections are maintained if you go to another page and when you log out, and then log in again. The table's horizontal scrolling is also available when all of the columns do not fit on one window.
The Alarms list allows you to display and select many entries at a time, which can be useful for large-batch operations.
Search for Alarms
Use the Search dialog box to search for specific alerts by severity, category, host name, device MAC address, or client MAC address, and select the magnifying glass icon. For example, you can enter Major to search for major alarms.
Clear an Alarm
You might want to remove one or more alerts from the log, or remove redundant entries. To clear an alert log entry, select the check box next to the alert, and then select Clear Alert which only appears when alerts are displayed. After you clear an alert, it becomes an event and it appears in the event log. (See Events.)
Clear Multiple Alerts
To remove multiple alarm entries, select the alarms that you want to remove with one or a combination of the following selection methods, and then select Clear Alarm:
This window displays an events timeline and an events log. At the top of the window, the timeline is a graph that reflects the times of peak and low events during a seven-day interval. Underneath the timeline, the events log displays the actual number of events for the selected date and time range. (By default, the last 24 hours of event information is displayed in both the timeline and the log.) An events log is an historical record of various events of interest that configured devices report to ExtremeCloud IQ through CAPWAP (Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access Points) defines a framework in which wireless access points can communicate with a central management system, which can then provision, control, and manage the access points. Extreme devices use CAPWAP for much of their communication with ExtremeCloud IQ. The CAPWAP module running on the ExtremeCloud IQ generates CAPWAP events reported here. The events log is organized chronologically from the most recent date and time to the earliest date and time by default. Events are informational and can be used for auditing or record keeping and are updated hourly, but you can select to manually refresh the window.
The Events timeline provides you with a graphical indicator of events have been recorded by ExtremeCloud IQ. You can filter events occurring within a specific time interval of interest. To choose a specific time frame in the seven-day timeline, select a handle and slide the shaded interval window to the left or the right. (Then the data in the events log is refreshed to reflect the timeline that you selected.) You can also pull both handles on either side of the interval window to cover a specific time frame. For example, if you expand the shaded interval to the far left and far right, you can see up to seven days of event information.
To determine which columns are displayed in the Events List table, select to display the names of all the columns in the table. Then select or clear the check box next to a column name to display or hide a particular column. Your selections are maintained if you go to another window or log out and then log in again. The table's horizontal scrolling is available when all of the columns do not fit on one window.
View Events
Each entry in the events log consists of the following elements:
Timestamp: Indicates the time, in the month, day, and time-of-day format, that the event occurred
Severity: Indicates if the event was major, informational, or cleared (clear)
Category: Indicates the type of event such as "State Change" or "Threshold Change"
HostName: Lists the host name of the configured device on which the event occurred
Device MAC: Indicates the MAC address of the device that reported the event
Client MAC: Indicates the MAC address of the client that reported the event
Within the events log, you can determine the information format by selecting a column heading. For example, if you want to organize the content by severity, select the Severity heading.
