Anycast IP Gateway provides robust active-active router instances with shortest path forwarding. This feature is beneficial for deployments that share I-SIDs among many sites.

Configure Anycast IP Gateway to use many switches as the default gateway for attached subnets and to distribute routing. All configured routers can route packets they receive with the destination address of the gateway MAC. Unlike with VRRP, you do not need a backup router to forward packets to a primary router.

Anycast IP Gateway distributes routing by announcing the virtual router interface (the gateway IP and gateway MAC) through the IS-IS LSDB, and then BEBs use the SPB shortest path calculation to forward traffic to the closest router. Layer 2 VSNs at the edge of the SPB network process the advertised information, and then bridge the traffic without requiring dynamic MAC learning.
