View Wireless Networks

A network policy can include one or more wireless networks, also referred to as SSIDs. An SSID is an alphanumeric string that identifies a set of authentication and encryption services that wireless clients and access points use when communicating with each other. ExtremeCloud IQ supports two types of SSIDs: Guest Access SSIDs, which provide guests with Internet access; and standard SSIDs, which are assigned to your network devices and which allow access based on a network policy. Both types of SSIDs are displayed on this page. For more information about creating a Guest Access SSID, see Guest Access Wireless Network Settings. For more information about creating a standard SSID, see Standard Wireless Network Settings. To view the SSID common objects, see SSIDs.

An SSID profile includes an SSID name plus various settings such as the user profiles (and their accompanying QoS and firewall policies), SSID activation schedules, and MAC address and traffic filters. By separating an SSID from an SSID profile, you can apply the same SSID with different profile settings to different devices. In this way, users can associate with the same SSID in different locations, but the devices at each location can apply a different set of policies to their traffic.

Assign SSIDs to Devices Using Classification Rules

You can assign SSIDs to devices using locations, Cloud Config Groups, IP addresses, IP subnets, and IP ranges, as described in Network Policy Classification Rules. To make this process easier, first make sure that the wireless networks (SSIDs) and classification rules already exist. Configure the following settings:

Select Assign SSIDs using Classification Rules check box. Classification Rules and Classification Description columns now appear in the Wireless Networks table.

In an SSID Classification Rules column, perform the following steps to either clone an existing rule, or create a new one:

Select , select the existing classification rule and choose Link.

To clone an existing classification rule, select the target classification rule, select Copy, enter a new name and then select Save.

To add a new classification rule select in the Classification Rules column . Enter a name and an optional description. Then select Add and select Device Location, Cloud Config Group, IP Address, IP Subnet, or IP Range from the drop-down menu, depending on the classification type required. Select the parameters for the classification rule, and then choose either Continue or Select. Use the up and down arrows in the Order column to define the order in which the rules appear in the table. Rule profiles are considered using a top-down, first-match, stop-on-match method, so if a device is a member of more than one matching criteria, only the first match is applied. Select Save Rule.

View and Modify SSID Properties

The Wireless SSIDs table displays all deployed SSIDs in the selected network policy. This includes standard SSID names, Guest Access SSID names, access security method, and VLAN to which the SSID traffic is assigned.

To view or modify an SSID object using the standard wireless workflow, select the SSID name in the SSID column.

To view or modify a Guest Access SSID object using the simplified Guest Access workflow, select an SSID link in the Guest Access column.

Add a New SSID

To add an SSID object using the simplified Guest Access network workflow, select Add > Guest Access Network. Continue with Guest Access Wireless Network Settings.

To add an SSID object using the standard wireless network workflow, select Add > All other Networks (standard). Continue with Standard Wireless Network Settings.

Add Existing SSIDs to the Network Policy

In the Wireless SSIDs page, select . Select the check box for one or more existing SSIDs to add to the network policy. Choose Select to add the selected SSIDs to the network policy.

Copy an Existing SSID to the Network Policy

In the Wireless SSIDs window, select . Select the check box for an existing SSID and select Copy. You can copy one SSID at a time. Enter a new SSID name and select Save.

Delete SSIDs from the Network Policy

In the Wireless SSIDs window, select the check box for one or more SSIDs that you want to delete from the network policy and select and confirm the deletion.

Note

Note

You cannot remove an SSID profile if a network policy currently references it. You must first edit the network policy so that it does not reference the profile that you want to remove.

Delete an Existing SSID from the Network Policy Database

In the Wireless SSIDs window, select , select the check boxes of SSIDs that you want to delete from the network policy database and select and confirm the deletion.

Note

Note

You cannot remove an SSID profile if a ExtremeCloud IQ network policy currently references it. You must first edit the network policy as described in "Delete SSIDs from the Network Policy" so that it does not reference the profile that you want to remove.
