The LRM/MACsec Adapter (Part number: 10695) is a two-port external adapter that can be used in conjunction with a switch to enable the use of 10 Gigabit Long Reach Multimode (LRM) optics and/or MACsec link encryption on the switch. The adapter effectively enables either LRM or MACsec support on SFP+ switch ports that do not otherwise support these capabilities.
The adapter includes four physical SFP+ ports: two for direct connection to the host switch and two for external links. Host ports use a proprietary 10 Gbps direct attach cable (DAC) to connect to the host. The adapter includes two host cables. Fully managed from the host switch, the adapter does not require setup using a local console cable or Ethernet port.
Note
You must connect both host ports to trigger PHY initialization and you must insert the DAC in the adapter before you insert the DAC in the switch. The adapter provides the necessary hardware to drive up to two LRM external links when connected to the host switch's 10 Gbps SFP+ ports. The adapter can simultaneously support MACsec encryption across the same LRM links. MACsec-only operation is also possible on host switch ports when LRM is not required.
Note
MACsec encryption is not supported with the adapter when used with Universal switches. Both host ports and an auxiliary USB port provide power to the adapter. As a best practice, always use the USB port to provide power.
If the PHY firmware on the adapter is out-of-date, you must upgrade the adapter firmware. To understand if you need to upgrade, see Upgrade the LRM/MACsec Adapter PHY Firmware.
