Meshpoint Network Configuration

Deployment Strategy

The following strategy outlines how to configure a Meshpoint network:
  1. Configure Meshpoint settings through the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller user interface.
    Note

    Note

    • Ports on the Universal APs are labeled ETH0, ETH1. Other AP models label the ports GE1, GE2 or LAN1, LAN2. In all cases, the user interface field labels display "ETH0" and "ETH1" which are equivalent to GE1 and GE2, and LAN1 and LAN2, respectively.
    • When a single interface AP is configured as a Mesh non-root AP, the single interface is used as a client port, not as an uplink.
  2. Connect the Root AP to the backbone network using the AP ETH0/GE1 port.
  3. Connect the non-root APs to the backbone network using the AP ETH0/GE1 port.
  4. Wait for the non-root APs to receive the controller configuration.
  5. Deploy the non-root APs.
  6. If the wired network is bridged through the wireless mesh network, then connect the wired switch (or other device) to the non-root AP using the ETH1/GE2 port.
Take the following steps to configure Meshpoint on the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller user interface:
  1. Configure a Meshpoint Network. See Meshpoint Network Settings.
  2. Configure Mesh Device Groups.
  3. From the device group configuration Profile:
    • Specify the Meshpoint Network.
    • Specify Advanced configuration Profile settings.
    • Specify Mesh Device Settings.

Initially, configure non-root APs over wired Ethernet, connected to the Management Port. After adding an AP to a non-root mesh device group, the AP will reboot and then it will be a member of the group without the Ethernet network. (It is highly recommended to disconnect the Management Ethernet port at this time.) If you need to modify the configuration of a non-root AP after deploying in a mesh network, reconnect the AP through the Management Ethernet port and verify meshpoint configuration. When a non-root AP is incorrectly configured in a mesh network, it can become stranded. To recover a stranded AP, reconnect to the Management Port through the wired Ethernet.
