Classification Rule Common Objects
Manage and configure a common-object classification rule.
Navigate using the tab icons. Hover over an icon to see the name of the tab.
Configure > Common Objects > Policy > Classification Rules > [Add or Modify]
ExtremeCloud IQ supports multiple classification rule types. See Classification Rules Overview for more information. Each classification rule can include multiple object categories: Location, Cloud Config Group, IP Address, IP Subnet, and IP Range. These objects can have the same or different parameters, and can be used throughout your network.
You can add classification rules here, or you can manage network-policy-specific classification rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules.
The table in the Classification Rules window displays the following information for existing classification rules:
Name: The name of the classification rule.
Rule Description and Details: An optional description of the rule.
Use the following procedures to add a classification rule:
In the Classification Rules window, select Add. Enter a name and optional description for the classification rule, and continue with any of the following sections.
Add Classification Rules by Location
To add a classification rule based on location, you must first have created a location for the target devices, as described in ML Insights Network 360 Plan.
Note
You can also add network-policy-specific classification rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules.Add Classification Rule by Cloud Config Group
To add a Cloud Config Group classification rule, you can include an existing Cloud Config Group, or you can create a new Cloud Config Group object using this procedure.
Name: Enter a name for the Cloud Config Group name, which can contain up to 64 characters.
Description: (optional) Enter a description for this Cloud Config Group.
Selected Devices: Select real and simulated devices at the bottom of the panel. Their host names will appear in the Selected Devices text box.
Note
You can also import a comma-separated-values (CSV) file including the hostnames, serial numbers, and optional MAC addresses of other devices. Select Import, and then select the CSV file or drag the CSV file to the Import Cloud Config Group Members panel. You can also add network-policy-specific classifications rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules
Add Classification Rule by IP Address
To add a common-object IP Address classification rule, you can use an IP Address object for the target devices, as described in IP Objects and Host Names., or you can create a new common IP Address object in this procedure.
Name: Enter a name, which can contain up to 64 characters.
IP Address: Enter the IP address of the object.
Note
You can also add network-policy-specific classification rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules.Add Classification Rule by IP Subnet
To add a IP Subnet classification rule, you can use an IP subnet for the target devices, as described in IP Objects and Host Names, or you can create a new IP Subnet using this procedure:
Name: Enter a name, which can contain up to 64 characters.
IP Address: Enter the starting IP address of the Subnet object, such as 197.51.100.0.
Netmask: Enter the subnet mask of the Subnet object, such as 255.255.255.0.
Note
You can also add network-policy-specific classification rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules.Add Classification Rule by IP Range
To add a IP range classification rule, you can use an IP range object for the target devices, as described in IP Objects and Host Names, or you can create a new IP range using this procedure:
Name: IP Range object name, up to 64 characters.
IP Address: The starting IP address of the Range object, such as 197.55.200.0.
Netmask: The ending IP address of the Range object, such as 197.55.200.150.
Note
You can also add network-policy-specific classification rules as described in Network Policy Classification Rules. Each classification rule can include multiple objects: Location, Cloud Config Group, IP Address, IP Subnet, and IP Range, that you can organize in the classification rule object table. Because the objects are considered using a top-down, first-match, stop-on-match method, so if a device is a member of more than one matching object for an element, only the first match is applied:
In the Classification Rules window, select a classification rule and then select .
Make any required changes, and then select Save Rule.
In the Classification Rules window, select the target classification rule, and then select .
Enter a new classification rule name in the Save As text box, and then select Clone.
In the Classification Rules window, select the check boxes for rules you want to delete and then select .
