Fabric Attach operates in server mode whenever BGP Auto-peering is configured or an LTEP (Local Tunnel End Point) is created. The Fabric Attach server may receive mapping requests from any of several sources (CLI, client/proxy requests using LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol), BGP, OSPFv2, or network authentication services such as RADIUS (Remote Authentication Dial In User Service) and policy). Since the CLI prevents conflicting CLI-sourced mappings from being requested, a mapping request from the CLI is entered into the database as “accepted” and conflicting mappings in the database have their status set to “rejected”. When a mapping is requested by a client or proxy, it is entered into the database.
