Hotspot

ExtremeCloud IQ supports the definition of Hotspot 2.0 service, and simplified configuration for WBA OpenRoaming on Hotspot 2.0 networks.

When configuring a hotspot, you have the following options:
  • Use WBA OpenRoaming for a simplified NAI routing configuration that automatically creates a AAA policy.
  • Configure a traditional hotspot and enable NAI routing in the AAA Policy.

WBA OpenRoaming is a simplified configuration for a hotspot that uses a single realm.

The following access points are supported:
  • AP3000
  • AP4020
  • AP5010
  • AP5020
  • AP5050

Traditionally, using a hotspot presents end users with several challenges, including initial connection issues, security concerns, and connectivity while roaming. Hotspot 2.0 offers the following features to improve the hotspot end-user experience:

Each hotspot WLAN has its own Access Network Query Protocol (ANQP) configuration. The HESSID and ANQP Domain ID are specific to the hotspot WLAN.

With pre-association, a mobile device uses ANQP to perform network discovery. The mobile device connection manager uses the hotspot information, including the service provider policy and user preferences, to automatically select a hotspot network. A mobile device queries the hotspot for key service provider identification and authentication information and selects a network. The system generates the ANQP response using parameters configured by the hotspot operator.
