Meshpoint Radio RF Policy Assignment and Configuration

The default RF policy assigned to a Meshpoint radio depends on two factors:
  1. The number of radios on the AP that are assigned with the Meshpoint Profile.

  2. The role assigned to the AP (non-root or root).

In some cases, a Meshpoint radio's default RF Policy can be changed; otherwise, it cannot be changed, as described in Meshpoint Radio - RF Policy Assignment.

Note

Note

Upon upgrade from earlier revisions, non-root APs in a mesh network are converted to Mesh ACS to determine the best channel.

Meshpoint Profile – AP Role and Number of Radios AssignedRF Policy
Non-root, multiple radiosThere are two options available for this profile/radio assignment:
  • Auto (default) — If the current radio has the best estimated connection to the root, this radio adopts the channel and width of the uplink (root) AP. Power will be the maximum allowable. If another radio is used as the path to the root, this radio will use SmartRF to set channel, power, and width.
  • Fixed Channel — You must manually configure a channel width, a channel plan, and power settings. If another radio has the best path to root, this radio will use the manual settings.
Note: When using Fixed Channel, configure a channel that is part of the Mesh ACS channel plan because non-root APs use Mesh ACS.
Root, multiple radiosThere are two options available for this profile/radio assignment:
  • Auto (default) — This option invokes SmartRF, which sets the channel and channel width, as well as the power.
Note: This option is not recommended, as channels may tend to change frequently and unnecessarily.
  • Fixed Channel — You must manually configure a channel width, a channel plan, and power settings.
Note: When using Fixed Channel, configure a channel that is part of the Mesh ACS channel plan because non-root APs use Mesh ACS.
Non-root, one radioThis profile/radio assignment defaults to MeshACS.

The Meshpoint radio adopts the channel and width of the uplink (root) AP. The non-root AP scans channels to find the best path to a root AP.

This setting cannot be changed.
Root, one radioThere are two options available for this profile/radio assignment:
  • Auto (default) — This option invokes SmartRF, which sets the channel and channel width, as well as the power.
Note: This option is not recommended, as channels may tend to change frequently and unnecessarily.
  • Fixed Channel — You must manually configure a channel width, a channel plan, and power settings.
Note: When using Fixed Channel, configure a channel that is part of the Mesh ACS channel plan because non-root APs use Mesh ACS.
