Multicast routers use IGMP to learn which groups have interested listeners on their attached physical networks. In a subnet, one multicast router is elected as an IGMP querier.
The querier sends queries to hosts. Hosts that are multicast listeners respond to the queries with requests to join or leave a multicast group. For more information, see Internet Group Management Protocol.
