Log in for the First Time on Switch Engine

The 4120 Series is designed for easy-to-use cloud management. 4120 Series switches can be managed by either of the native cloud management options ExtremeCloud™ IQ or ExtremeCloud™ IQ Site Engine, avoiding the need for complex on-switch provisioning through a direct console interface. Onboarding to the cloud is a hands-off operation using zero-touch provisioning. Connect the switch to the network and the switch automatically finds its connection to the cloud and is ready to be provisioned.

An ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot License is required for each 4120 Series switch.

Use the following steps to log into the switch.

  1. The initial login prompt displays as follows:
    (Pending-AAA) login:

    The failsafe account is available at this time, but the normal AAA login security is not available yet.

  2. Wait for the following message to display:
    Authentication Service (AAA) on the master node is now available for login.

    The normal AAA login security is available at this time.

  3. Press [Enter].

    Whether or not you press [Enter], after you see the logon prompt, you can perform a normal logon.

    You can perform a normal logon after you see the logon prompt regardless of whether or not you pressed [Enter]. The following prompt displays:

    login

After you have successfully logged on, the following information about successful and unsuccessful logons displays:

There have been 26 successful logins since last reboot and 0 failed logins since last successful login
Last Successful Login was on: Thu Apr 23 17:16:08 2020

Manual Setup

This section describes how to manually onboard the switch and finish the switch configuration.

Onboard your switch with ExtremeCloud™. Log in or create your XIQ administrator account https://extremecloudiq.com

Before logging in, verify that the switch LEDs are on (solid green or blinking green) and that it is connected to a management console as described in Connect to a Management Console.

To perform the initial login and complete initial configuration tasks, follow these steps.

  1. Use a terminal emulator such as PuTTY or TeraTerm to connect to the switch through the serial port connection.
    You can also connect to the switch via telnet or SSH. Be sure that your serial connection is set properly:
    • Baud rate: Baud rate: 115200
    • Data bits: 8
    • Stop bit: 1
  2. At the management console, press [Enter] one or more times until you see the login prompt.
  3. At the login prompt, log in using the default user name admin.

    For example:

    login: admin

    For the initial password, simply press [Enter].

    When you have successfully logged on to the system, the command line prompt displays the system name (for example, 4120-424MW-SwitchEngine =). You are logged in to the CLI and have limited access to switch functions.

  4. Respond to the screen prompts to configure the level of security you need.

  5. Enter show version.

    The switch serial number is displayed, as highlighted in the following example. Make a note of this number for future reference.
