Abstract

The ExtremeXOS® v33.6.1 User Guide by Extreme Networks, Inc., released in March 2026, provides comprehensive instructions for configuring and managing Extreme Networks switches. It covers various functionalities, including switch management, software upgrades, stack configurations, and network protocol implementations such as BGP, OSPF, and VRRP. The guide also includes detailed procedures for configuring VLANs, using the CLI for scripting, and setting up network security features like ACLs and Identity Management. New features introduce configurable web authentication token TTL (60–86,400 seconds) using the /auth/token endpoint for automation tool integration such as Ansible, extended SNMPv3 authentication and privacy password support up to 128 characters with enforceable minimum-length policies using configure snmpv3 user password-policy, and increased LAG capacity to 128 on select switch models. IP Device Tracking sends periodic ARP probes at configurable intervals (30–3600 seconds) with defined failure thresholds to preserve NetLogin sessions for low-traffic devices. Non-volatile NAND flash health monitoring tracks erase counters and block counts at normal (24-hour) or frequent (1-hour) reporting intervals. Service Probe enhancements enable Python and shell execution within a dedicated SvcProbe cgroup enforcing 5% CPU and 5% memory limits, making this an essential reference for network administrators responsible for deploying and maintaining ExtremeSwitching hardware platforms. Additionally, it addresses advanced topics like Zero Touch Provisioning, Extended Edge Switching, and support for integrated application hosting. This document serves as an extensive resource for network administrators using ExtremeSwitching and other supported hardware platforms.
