The 4000 Series are ExtremeCloud IQ managed Layer 2 switches that are fully cloud managed. The 4000 Series maintains all the power and flexibility of a traditional enterprise access switch, while simplifying network operations. Visibility is centralized and actions are instantaneous. Zero-touch provisioning allows rapid deployment across sites, and machine learning tools help quickly isolate issues when troubleshooting. The 4000 Series also provides support for stacking and PoE.

Note
An ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot license is required for each 4000 Series switch. The 4220 Series includes 8, 12, 24, and 48-port models with gigabit and multi-gigabit (1/2.5/5Gb) access ports, up to 90W PoE, and 4 x SFP+ uplink/stack ports and is a highly flexible enterprise Layer 2 wired edge solution.
The switch supports connections using the RJ45 serial console port, the Ethernet management port, or the Micro-USB Type B port to view and manage the switch configuration. You can also connect to the switch using Bluetooth. For more information on switch connection methods, see Manage Your Switch. For switch connection details, see Connect to a Management Console.
After connecting to your switch, it can be flexibly configured and operated though the cloud, the network, or the command-line interface (CLI), either remotely or locally. You can access management functions on the switch using ExtremeCloud™ IQ or ExtremeCloud IQ Site Engine, or manually through a web-based GUI or generic command-line interface (CLI) client. For more information on switch configuration and operation methods, see Manage Your Switch.

Note
The CLI is limited for 4120 Series and 4220 Series devices. See the 4000 Series User Guide for your version of Switch Engine for detailed information on the available commands. An ExtremeCloud IQ Pilot license is required for access to the CLI.
Note
There is also a Type A USB 2.0 port labeled USB on the front panel that can interface with USB storage devices. Each switch is cooled by fixed internal switch fans. The switch supports side-to-side (left-to-right) airflow for switch cooling. The switch fans are responsible for cooling the internal power supply; the power supply does not have an integrated cooling fan that operates independently of the switch fan for power supply cooling.
Each switch has a fixed internal AC power supply that provides enough power for the basic power needs of the switch. For switch models that support PoE, the internal power supply also provides a POE power budget beyond the basic switch needs. Power supplies have integrated cooling fans that operate independently of the switch fans for power supply cooling and are not responsible for cooling the switch.
See Power Specifications for more information about PoE for the switch.
For power redundancy, the 4220-4MW-20P-4X and 4220-8MW-40P-4X switches support the addition of an external redundant AC power supply that can be rack-mounted. The external redundant power supply connection is located on the rear panel of the switch.
The external redundant power supply is ordered separately
See Max PoE Power Budget for more information about the PoE power budget.
For more information about the external redundant power supplies, see the Redundant Power Supply Quick Reference and Redundant Power Supplies for Use with Your Switch.
Each switch comes equipped with two stacking ports, also referred to as Universal Ethernet ports. When running Switch Engine, these ports can be used in either stacking mode or Ethernet mode. When in stacking mode, up to eight systems can be stacked using qualified direct attach cables or optical transceivers. Fabric Engine does not support stacking; the stacking ports can be used as Ethernet ports if Fabric Engine is in non-fabric mode.

Note
4220 Series switches can only stack with themselves. All and switches support an operating range from 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F) up to 3000 m (10,000 ft).

Note
The 4220-12P-4X, 4220-12T-4X, and 4220-4MW-8P-4X switches support silent mode operation at temperatures up to 35°C (95°F). Silent mode requires 1 RU of free space above the switch. Fans function normally if the temperature is between 35°C (95°F) and 50°C (122°F).A base license for the 4220 Series is the only license supported in Switch Engine. For additional Switch Engine licensing information see the Feature License Requirements for your version of the Switch Engine operating system.
For Fabric Engine licensing, see the Licensing chapter in the Fabric Engine User Guide for your version of the Fabric Engine operating system.
