SAMBA
Samba is a program running under UNIX-like operating systems that provides seamless
integration between UNIX and Microsoft Windows machines. Samba acts as a file and print
server for Microsoft Windows, IBM OS/2, and other SMB client machines. Samba uses the Server
Message Block (SMB) protocol and Common Internet File System (CIFS), which is the underlying
protocol used in Microsoft Windows networking. Samba can be installed on a variety of
operating systems, including Linux, most common Unix platforms, OpenVMS, and IBM OS/2. Samba
can also register itself with the master browser on the network so that it would appear in
the listing of hosts in Microsoft Windows "Neighborhood Network".
