In the Extended Edge Switching architecture, Layer-2, Layer-3, multicast, and filtering operations take place on the controlling bridge. The controlling bridge switch and attached BPEs constitute a single, extended switch system. Therefore, the Extended Edge Switching system assumes the scale and limits from the specific controlling bridge model (for example, ExtremeSwitching X670-G2) in use.
