Replace a Fan Module

VSP 4900 Series switches support the following fan module:

Part number XN-FAN-002-F provides front-to-back airflow for switch cooling

Before you begin, have the replacement fan module on hand so that you can complete the replacement promptly. The switch can overheat if left without adequate cooling for an extended time.

Remove a Fan Module

Use the following instructions to remove a fan module.

Gently pull the tab (labeled Air Out) on the end of the fan module.
The fan module is held in place by spring clips. As you pull, the clips disengage and the fan stops.
Slide the fan module out of the switch and set it aside.

Install a Fan Module

Use the following instructions to install a fan module.

Verify that the airflow direction on the replacement fan module matches that of the installed power supplies and any fan modules.
Fan modules with a red tab provide front-to-back airflow and are labeled Air Out.
Carefully slide the replacement fan module into the switch.
Note
Do not force the installation. If the fan assembly does not slide in easily, ensure that it is correctly oriented before continuing.

Push until the fan module snaps into place. The fan automatically starts to operate.
