AP4020 Series Radios and 6 GHz Support

The AP4020 series access points with quad-radios are high-performance Wi-Fi 7, 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz band access points for use in high-density indoor environments.

The AP4020 series includes three variants: AP4020, AP4020X, and AP4020FX. Each variant has these common features and characteristics:

Unique characteristics and features of the variants are as follows:

Note

Note

  • Radio 4 on the AP4020 series is disabled. It is reserved to operate in a future release as a dedicated sensor, thereby allowing dedication of three radios to data usage.

  • AP4020/X/FX 802.3af low power is used strictly for staging. Wi-Fi service is not supported.

The AP4020 series supports a Reduced Power Consumption Deployment Model.

The AP4020 series has four radios:

AP4020 Series Features

The AP4020 series supports the following features:
  • AFC indoor (Low Power Indoor or 6 GHz Standard Power)
  • LLDP (enabled by default)

  • UL and DL MU-MIMO

  • UL and DL OFDMA

  • Tx Beamforming — Downlink Single User (DL SU)

  • 5 GHz Channel Width: 160 MHz
  • 6 GHz Channel Width: 160 and 320 MHz

  • 4096-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) — 6GHz

  • Fabric Attach

  • Vusion Group ImagoTag ESL

  • GCMP-256 Cipher

  • WPA3 SAE AKM 24

  • WPA3 Beacon Protection

  • Enhanced Packet Capture

  • IEEE 802.11mc compliant

  • Wireless Backhaul (Mesh)

  • Client Bridge / Client Mode

  • IoT

  • GRE Tunneling

  • Basic Load Balancing (max clients)

  • 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE)

Reduced Power Consumption Deployment Model

The AP4020 series supports a reduced power consumption configuration.

The objective of this configuration is to achieve 20.5W (max) and 16.5W (typical). To achieve this, AP4020/X/FX must be deployed meeting all of the following conditions:
  • Reduce power on all radios to 16dbm for both Fixed Channel and Smart RF modes.

  • Disable USB (if it is set to Auto).

  • Disable sensor/Radio 4. (This is the default setting.)

AP4020 Series Software Defined Radios

The AP4020 series WI-FI 7 access points provide support for tri-radio and dual 5 GHz with 2.4 GHz radio deployments.

The AP4020 series transmits with multiple combinations of three data radios across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. The AP4020 series monitors the software defined radios (SDR), enabling configuration of the APs in different modes as required.

Supported Software Defined Radio Modes describes the supported operating modes and their related characteristics and capabilities.
