With Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) cable diagnostic, you can test Ethernet cables connected to a switch port or ports for defects. The cable diagnostic detects the state of the port or ports, the status of the cable pairs, and the length of the cable.

Note

Note

You can perform TDR cable diagnostic on copper ports.

The following table lists the states of the cables connected to a port or ports.

State Description

Ok

No cable fault is detected.

Open

Detects lack of continuity between the pins at each end of the cable.

Short

Detects a short circuit in the cable.

Open/Short

Detects either a short circuit on the cable or a lack of continuity between the pins at each end of the cable.

Crosstalk

Detects interference and degradation between two pairs in the cable.

Unknown

Detects an unknown issue.
