Installing Your 200 Series Switch

Before you attempt to install or remove an Extreme Networks switch, read the precautions in Safety Considerations for Installing Switches.

ExtremeSwitching switches fit into standard 19-inch equipment racks.

There are additional mounting options for 12-port switch models. They can be mounted on a wall, individually in a rack, or side by side in a rack.

The provided rack-mounting brackets attach to the front of the switch and are adaptable to either a front-mount or mid-mount installation. Optional rear-mounting brackets are also included for four-post racks or cabinets.

The installation process includes the following tasks:

  1. Prepare the site for installing the switch.
    See Pre-installation Requirements.
  2. Install the switch in a rack or on a desktop.
    See Attaching a 24- or 48-Port Switch to a Rack or Installing a Switch on a Desktop or Other Flat Surface.

    For 12-port switch models, see Mounting 12-Port Switches.

  3. Install optional optical transceivers.
    See the instructions in Installing Optional Components.
  4. Connect power to the switch.
    See Connecting Power to the Switch.
  5. Connect network interface cables.
    See Connecting Network Interface Cables.
  6. Perform initial network connection and configuration.
    See Basic Configuration for Your 200 Series Switch.
