ExtremeLocation Essentials includes the ability to add third-party beacons that can be used with its locationing service. A third-party beacon is a beacon that is not manufactured by Extreme Networks. Once these third-party beacons are onboarded, they can perform all the functions as the Extreme Networks beacons.
You can use any programmable beacon from any manufacturer. However, ExtremeLocation Essentials only supports iBeacon beacon broadcasting format on these third-party beacons.
The following are the important points to remember when using third-party beacons with ExtremeLocation Essentials.
The third-party beacons must be programmable.
You should have access to the beacon's MAC address for use while creating the beacon's entry in ExtremeLocation Essentials.
You should have the third-party beacon's RSSI value reading at one (1) meter distance.
Before you onboard the beacon with the beacon's onboarding app, you must add it to ExtremeLocation Essentials and make a note of the Major:Minor value. This value will be required when you onboard the beacon using its app.
