Replace a Controller in an Availability PairNEW!

This task explains the process of how to replace a faulty controller in an Availability Pair.

Perform the following steps using the example controllers above:

  1. Use the Basic Configuration Wizard to configure the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller initial setup on the replacement controller. Make sure that the new appliance configuration settings match the configuration of the replaced appliance.
For information about the Basic Configuration Wizard, see any of the Virtual Appliance Installation Guides: https://supportdocs.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/.
  2. Upgrade the replacement appliance with the firmware version that is being used in the Availability Pair.
  3. Physically replace the faulty controller with the replacement controller. If the faulty controller is the primary appliance, first switch the appliance roles.

For information about configuring Availability Pair settings, see the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller User Guide.

For information about controller installation, see the hardware installation guide for the controller model: https://supportdocs.extremenetworks.com/support/documentation/

Ensuring that the replaced controller is the backup controller makes it easier to sync the configuration between the two controllers in the Availability Pair. After the configuration is in sync, you can reassign the primary and backup roles.

  4. Using the Network Health Widget, make sure the controllers in the Availability Pair are synchronized.
Note

Note

The above procedure is a best practice. However, If you have a backup file of the primary controller's configuration, you can restore the configuration on the replacement controller. For information about restoring a backup file, see the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller User Guide.
