Onboard a Controller to ExtremeCloud IQ

Onboard ExtremeCloud IQ Controller to your ExtremeCloud IQ account for Cloud Visibility into your network. Both a Navigator and a Pilot ExtremeCloud IQ account are supported.

Now, in addition to Universal APs that operate in either the cloud or on-premise, ExtremeCloud IQ Controller can operate in the cloud. All access points that are discovered by the controller are visible in ExtremeCloud IQ. This is not limited to Universal APs. The process of onboarding ExtremeCloud IQ Controller is similar to onboarding an access point.

In a High Availability Pair, onboard the primary controller only to ExtremeCloud IQ for Cloud Visibility.

Before onboarding ExtremeCloud IQ Controller to ExtremeCloud IQ, install, configure, and license the controller. For more information, see configuration information under Configuring DHCP, NPS, and DNS Services and installation and licensing information under Extreme Networks product documentation portal.

The easiest way to onboard ExtremeCloud IQ Controller into ExtremeCloud IQ is to use the ExtremeCloud IQ Quick Add function.

Adding a Controller — Welcome Dialog

To onboard ExtremeCloud IQ Controller to ExtremeCloud IQ using the Welcome dialog, take the following steps:

  1. Log into your ExtremeCloud IQ account and select

  2. For ExtremeCloud IQ Controller, select Deploy your devices directly to the cloud.
  3. On the next screen, select Let‘s Get Started.
  4. Enter the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller serial number. This is the Locking ID of the controller. From the controller, go to Administration > License > License Details.
    • Type in serial numbers of the controller, separated by commas. Or,

    • Import from a CSV file.
      1. From the Device Make field, select Controller.
      2. Select Choose to navigate to the CSV file. Or, drag the file onto the dialog.

  5. Select Onboard Devices.
  6. Select Finish.
The controllers display on the ExtremeCloud IQ Device List with the status Onboarded. New controllers display the generic HOSTNAME because they are not yet registered with ExtremeCloud IQ. The controller hostname automatically updates after the AP is powered on and connected into ExtremeCloud IQ.

Enhanced Discovery is supported on AP3000. It requires ExtremeCloud IQ version 23.6.1 or greater. The following is an optional way to change the primary and backup controllers.

  1. Select the controller from the Managed Devices list.
  2. Select Actions > Enhanced Discovery
  3. Enter the Primary Controller IP address or FQDN, and the Backup Controller IP address or FQDN.
  4. Select OK.

Add a Controller — Quick Add

To onboard ExtremeCloud IQ Controller to ExtremeCloud IQ using the Quick Add function, take the following steps:

  1. From the ExtremeCloud IQ main navigation pane, select Manage Devices.
  2. Select Quick Add ().
  3. In the Serial Number field, enter the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller serial number.
    This is the Locking ID of the controller. Find the controller Serial Number under the controller's License Details. From the controller, go to Administration > License > License Details.
    The Device Make field displays.
  4. From the Device Make field, select Controllers.

  5. In the MAC Address field, enter the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller MAC Address.
    Find the controller MAC Address under the controller's License Details. From the controller, go to Administration > License > License Details.
  6. Select Add Devices.
