Deploying an ExtremeGuest External Captive Portal

Deployment Strategy

The following strategy outlines how to configure ExtremeCloud IQ Controller to integrate with ExtremeGuest™, which houses the external captive portal. The ExtremeGuest server can be assigned from the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller Networks Add page to handle client authentication and accounting. The portal resides on the ExtremeGuest server and ExtremeCloud IQ Controller initiates the client network connections.

The following outlines how to integrate ExtremeCloud IQ Controller with ExtremeGuest.
  1. Add a site with a device group.
  2. Configure one or more ExtremeGuest servers.
  3. Configure a captive portal network:
    • Select Enable Captive Portal on the network.
    • Select portal type EGuest.
    • Specify the ExtremeGuest servers.
  4. Modify the configuration profile associated with the device group:
    • Assign the ExtremeGuest network to the device group.
    • Assign the policy roles to the device group.

      The policy role names must match on both ExtremeGuest and ExtremeCloud IQ Controller. A simple approach is to create policies on ExtremeGuest with names that match the ExtremeCloud IQ Controller default policies.
