Locate a Device

Using a visual cue helps you quickly identify the exact position of a selected device within the mapped area. By triggering the blinking function, you can efficiently manage and troubleshoot your network, ensuring optimal performance and coverage.

Use this task to locate the physical location of a selected device.

  1. Go to Manage > Real Time Maps.
  2. From the Global View location list, select a floor or use the Search field to search for a specific site, building, or floor.

    The Search field helps you find a specific location in a large network. Enter the first few characters to see a list of locations. The more characters you enter, the more precise the search results will be.

    The selected floor must include a floor plan. For more information, see Add a Floor Plan.
  3. Select a connected device from the floor plan, and then select the Actions tab.
  4. Select Locate AP (blinking lights) or Locate Switch, configure the Locate Device settings, and then select Submit.

    APLED ColorSelect one of the following blinking light colors to set the color that the locator light will flash to help you find the AP:
    • Amber
    • White
    • Off
    APBlink ModeSelect one of the following blinking modes to set the speed at which the locator light will flash to help you find the AP:
    • Fast
    • Slow
    • Steady
    SwitchLED TimeoutSelect a number of seconds between 0 (until disabled) and 604800 (one week).

    Note

    Select Return to normal LED operations, and then select Submit, to stop the blinking lights used for locating the device.
