Configure a DNS Server

The DNS (Domain Name System) translates human-friendly domain names into IP addresses. You can supply external DNS server IP addresses or use routers to provide proxy DNS services for every local network under their control. The DNS service transparently proxies DNS requests and responses to and from internal or external DNS servers.

Perform the following steps to configure a DNS server profile.

  1. Go to Configure > Common Objects > Management > DNS Servers.
  2. Select an existing DNS server and then select Edit, or select Add.
  3. Type a Name for the DNS server policy.
  4. Type a Domain Name.
  5. Type an optional Description.
  6. To add a new DNS server, select .
  7. Type the IP address of the device to be configured as a DNS server.
  8. Select Add.
  9. Repeat steps 6–8 to add more DNS servers.

You can add up to three servers. The first entry is the primary server. The secondary entry becomes the secondary server, and so forth. Use the arrows in the Order column to change the order.

  10. Select Save.
