Replacing Bridge Port Extenders
You can replace bridge port extenders (BPEs) in existing Extended Edge
Switching topologies.
This procedure explains how to replace a BPE with another BPE of the same model. If
you want to replace an existing BPE with a different model, you need to remove the
existing BPE
(see Removing Bridge Port Extenders from Rings), and then add the new BPE (see
Inserting Additional Bridge Port Extenders on Cascades).

Note
For cascade
topologies, control plane/traffic is disrupted on the cascade below the BPE being
replaced until the new BPE is connected and accepted into the cascade
; for ring topologies, control plane/traffic
is disrupted only briefly while the cascades re-form. For more information about
how rings behave, see Extended Edge Switching Rings.
To replace a BPE:
- Detach the cables and remove the existing
BPE. In ring topologies, connectivity is
maintained to the other BPEs.
- Attach the cables to the new BPE.
