Configure APs for AFC

When configuring the AP5020 for AFC, the 6 GHz radio must be configured for LPI or SP/LPI to define the fallback behavior if the SP spectrum is not located. Configure the 6 GHz Radio Power Mode to SP (with fallback to LPI) either in the AP configuration profile or using the individual AP Override menu.

To configure this setting:

  1. Go to Configure > Devices > Access Points.

  2. Select or add an AP5020.

  3. Select the AP5020 configuration Profile Radios tab.

  4. To display the radio settings for the 6 GHz radio, select Advanced under Radio 3.
Click to expand in new window

The 6 GHz radio defaults to Smart-RF RF Management. Smart-RF automatically selects the channel and power for the LPI power level before AFC spectrum is available, and for the SP power level after the AFC spectrum is set.

When the 6 GHz radio is configured for Fixed Channel, the allowed channel and power is unknown in advance. As a best practice, use the AFC Explorer tool to determine the available AFC channel-power. For more information, see AFC Explorer.

Note

Note

When a radio using RF Management Policy transitions between LPI and SP power levels, the following points apply:
  • Fixed Channel: in most cases only power level changes. In rare cases when the set channel is not available in the AFC spectrum, the radio transitions to the fallback channel if configured, or remains at LPI power level.
  • Smart RF: In most cases, only the power level changes. If the operating channel is not available in AFC spectrum, Smart RF changes the channel to an available one.
  • The transition from SP to LPI involves only a power level change. No channel change is needed.

For AFC, each AP must be associated with a floor plan. Configure specific height settings from the floor plan or overwrite the height settings for each AP from the Professional Install dialog.
