Summit X460G2 Stack Configuration Guidelines
Before deploying a new stack with Summit X460G2 switches, consider the
following guidelines:
- In a stack that contains Summit X460G2 switches and other Summit switch models, a Summit
X460G2 switch might provide more memory and more features than other Summit switch models, and
this affects master node selection, backup node selection, and failover operation. Before
configuring a stack with Summit X460G2 switches and other Summit switch models, review Configuring the Master, Backup, and Standby Roles.
- To use the failover feature in the stack, a second Summit X460G2 is recommended, and it must
be the backup node.
- Only the master and master-capable nodes require a license to support special features such
as MPLS.
- If the MPLS feature pack is installed on the master-capable nodes, the following guidelines
apply:
- Each stack switch must meet the software and hardware requirements listed in the Feature
License Requirements document
- Only enhanced stacking protocol is supported on X460G2 and same protocol should be
configured on each Summit family switch in X460G2 stack.
- Although you can mix Summit X440, X450-G2, X460, X480, X670, X670G2
and X770 switches in a stack, we recommend that you do not mix these switch
types.
- Summit X460G2 with VIM-2SS option card is required for Summit Stack.
- Summit X460G2 switches support multiple types of QSFP+ stacking cables for connection
between VIM-2q ports and QSFP+ ports on other Summit switches. For information on which
cables to use with each type of Summit family switch, see the Summit Family Switches
Hardware Installation Guide.
- VIM-2Q in Summit X460-G2 supports LR4 PSM in 40G mode.
- Summit X460-G2 supports the LR4 Parallel Single Mode (PSM) Optical Transceiver on 40G
optical QSFP+ ports. Running in 4 x10g mode allows you to have 4 independent transmit and
receive channels, each capable of 10Gbps operation over a 10km single mode fiber hydra MPO to
4xLC duplex patch cord terminated with standard 10G LR SFP+ Optical transceivers.
- LR4 PSM is supported on the following platforms: Summit X770, VIM4-40G4x in Summit
X670, VIM3-40G4x in Summit X480, VIM-2Q in Summit X460-G2, Summit X670-G2-48x, BDX8,
and BD8900
