Replacing Bridge Port Extenders

You can replace bridge port extenders (BPEs) in existing Extended Edge Switching topologies.

This procedure explains how to replace a BPE with another BPE of the same model. If you want to replace an existing BPE with a different model, you need to remove the existing BPE, and then add the new BPE (see Inserting Additional Bridge Port Extenders on Cascades).

For cascade topologies, control plane/traffic is disrupted on the cascade below the BPE being replaced until the new BPE is connected and accepted into the cascade.
To replace a BPE:
  1. Detach the cables and remove the existing BPE.
  2. Attach the cables to the new BPE.
