Enabling PIM on a VLAN interface
Configure PIM for each interface to enable the interface to perform multicasting operations.
Before you begin
You must enable PIM globally before you enable it on an interface.
Procedure
- In the navigation pane, expand the following folders: .
- Click VLANs.
- Click the Basic tab.
- Select the VLAN ID that you want to configure with PIM.
- Click IP.
- Click the PIM tab.
- Select the Enable check box.
- Click Apply.
PIM field descriptions
Use the descriptions in the following table to use the PIM tab.

Mode |
Displays the mode that currently runs on the switch. The valid modes are SSM and Sparse. This variable is a read-only field. |
IntfType |
Specifies the type of interface: active or passive. |
HelloInterval |
Specifies how long to wait (in seconds) before the PIM router sends out the next hello message to neighboring routers. The default is 30 seconds. The range is 0-18724. |
JoinPruneInterval |
Specifies how long to wait (in seconds) before the PIM router sends out the next join or prune message to its upstream neighbors. The default is 60 seconds. The range is 1-18724. |
CBSRPreference |
Configures the preference for this local interface to become a C-BSR. The C-BSR with the highest BSR priority and address is the preferred BSR. The default is –1, which indicates that the current interface is not a C-BSR. The range is -1-255. |
