New topicConfiguring IoT Properties

The AP3912 and AP3916ic offer integrated BLE/802.15.4 radios for connectivity to Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and devices.

Note

Note

IoT is disabled when the AP is in Guardian mode; however, if an AP forwards traffic to an AP configured for IoT, IoT follows the user configuration.

iBeacon is Apple's technology standard that, allows Mobile Apps to understand their position in the physical world, delivering content based on a user's location. Configure iBeacon support from the IoT tab for the AP3912 and AP3916.

  1. From the top menu, click AP. The AP screen displays.
  2. Click either an AP3912 or AP3916 (not the checkbox).
    The AP dashboard displays.
  3. Click Configure. The AP Properties tab displays.
  4. Click the IoT tab, and select IoT Admin.
Click to expand in new window

Field Description
Application The IoT application ID. Currently, Apple's iBeacon is the only application supported.
Advertise Interval The advertising interval for the iBeacon application. Valid values are: Min (100ms) and Max (10240ms). The default value is Min (100ms).
UUID Used to differentiate a large group of related beacons. A company can have a network of beacons with the same UUID. A smart phone app can identify the beacons coming from that company.
Major Identifies a subset of beacons within the larger set. Used to more precisely pinpoint beacon location, and therefore MU location. This value could represent a venue specific attribute, such as a specific store or wing in a building. Valid values are 0 to 65635.
Minor Identifies an individual beacon. Used to more precisely pinpoint beacon location, and therefore MU location. This value complements the UUID and Major values to provide more granular identification of a specific location, such as a particular shelf, door-way, item. Valid values are 0 to 65635.
