Installing Your Extreme Networks Switch
Before you begin
If you are installing switches for use in a SummitStack configuration, read Building Stacks before you install the switches.

About this task
Extreme Networks switches fit into standard 19-inch equipment racks.
A four-post fixed rack-mounting kit (XN-46-RKMT-001) is provided with the X465 Series switch. A two-post kit (XN-2P-RMKIT-001) can be ordered separately.
The provided rack-mounting brackets attach to the front of the switch and are adaptable to either a front-mount or mid-mount installation. Optional rear-mounting brackets are also included for four-post racks or cabinets.
The installation process includes the following tasks:
- Prepare the site for installing the switch.
- Install the switch in the rack.
Install optional components: optical transceivers,
port option cards, versatile interface modules (VIMs), and stacking

Install one or two power supplies (for switches
that require them) and connect to an electrical source.

NoteBe aware of whether you are installing an AC-powered switch or a DC-powered switch. The installation instructions are different depending upon what type of power is used.
- Connect power to the switch.
- For a stacked configuration, connect stacking cables.
- Connect network interface cables.
- Perform initial network connection and configuration.
