Dynamic routes are typically learned by way of RIPng (Routing Information Protocol Next Generation), OSPFv3 (Open Shortest Path First version 3), BGP, or IS-IS, and routers that use these protocols use advertisements to exchange information in their routing tables. Using dynamic routes, the routing table contains only networks that are reachable.
Dynamic routes are aged out of the table when an update for the network is not received for a period of time, as determined by the routing protocol. For details on the configuration and behavior of IPv6 dynamic routes, please refer to the specific Chapters on RIPng, OSPFv3, and IS-IS in this guide.
