External Connectivity

Externally reachable IP addresses are those learned or exported from other routing protocols like RIP (Routing Information Protocol), BGP (Border Gateway Protocol), and OSPF (Open Shortest Path First). When using narrow metrics, external routes may use internal or external metrics. When calculating SPF, routes with internal metrics are preferred over routes with external metrics. When external metrics are used to compare routes, the internal cost is not considered unless the external metrics are equal.
