If you have remote branch sites with only Internet connectivity and you want to extend the capabilities of fabric to that site, or if you have a branch office with a private WAN connection and you want to have a backup link using the public Internet, you can extend the Fabric network over the Internet towards a remote branch by connecting Fabric switches through ExtremeCloud SD-WAN.

Fabric Extend Integration with ExtremeCloud SD-WAN integrates the following features for SD-WAN deployments:

Automation of Fabric Extend Tunnels over IP WAN infrastructure
MTU configuration per IS-IS logical interface for Layer 3 interfaces
SD-WAN infrastructure adjusts packet size to accommodate restricted MTU paths, such as Internet by fragmenting the end user IP packets.

This deployment provides the following benefits:

Encrypted transport
Automated provisioning of Fabric switches - Fabric Extend tunnels, MTU, and tunnel state exchange between the SD-WAN Appliance and Fabric switches through LLDP. Only one port on the switch supports this capability. For more information, see Auto-sense Port States.
Enhanced branch resiliency - one or more Fabric switches must be connected to the LAN port or ports of the SD-WAN Appliance to achieve automated redundancy.
Visibility of branch application traffic and optimized performance
