HAL.IPv4FIB.StrtIPFDBMode

Description

This event indicates IP FDB mode has started for some hardware that is present and enabled in the system. For increased hardware forwarding, when the number of IPv4 routes exceeds a threshold (e.g. 25,000), all slots without an External LPM Table automatically transition from using LPM routing to forwarding of individual remote hosts. This latter mode is also known as IP Forwarding Database (IP FDB) Mode. Slots without an External LPM Table operating in IP FDB Mode will be indicated with a "d" flag in the output of "show iproute reserved-entries statistics", indicating that only "direct" routes are installed. The statistics output will also show the number of IPv4 Remote hosts. Note that hardware with an External LPM Table continues using LPM routing mode. Stopping IP FDB Mode occurs only when both of the following are true: (1) The number of IPv4 routes is less or equal to the threshold, and (2) No hardware without External LPM Table is present and enabled in the system. Stopping IP FDB Mode is indicated by event HAL.IPv4FIB.StopIPFDBMode.

Remedy

No remedy is necessary since slots can continue in IP FDB mode. Consider upgrading to hardware that has an External LPM Table to continue operating in LPM routing mode when more than this many IPv4 routes are present.
