configure stpd maxage

configure stpd stpd_name maxage seconds

Description

Specifies the maximum age of a BPDU in the specified STPD (Spanning Tree Domain).

Syntax Description

stpd_name Specifies an STPD name on the switch.
seconds Specifies the maxage time in seconds. The default is 20 seconds, and the range is 6 to 40 seconds.

Default

The default maximum age of a BPDU is 20 seconds.

Usage Guidelines

If your STPD has the same name as another component, for example a VLAN (Virtual LAN), we recommend that you specify the identifying keyword as well as the name. If your STPD has a name unique only to that STPD, the keyword stpd is optional.

You should not configure any STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) parameters unless you have considerable knowledge and experience with STP. The default STP parameters are adequate for most networks.

In an MSTP (Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) environment, configure the maximum age of a BPDU only on the CIST, not on the MSTIs.

The range for the seconds parameter is 6 through 40 seconds.

Note that the time must be greater than, or equal to 2 * (Hello Time + 1) and less than, or equal to 2 * (Forward Delay –1).

Example

The following command sets the maximum age of STPD1 to 30 seconds:

configure stpd stpd1 maxage 30
