Configuring Overhead-Bytes in Calculating Rate-Limiting and Rate-Shaping

You can configure the size of overhead-bytes used in the calculation of rate-limiting and rate-shaping. Overhead-bytes include size of preamble and inter-frame gap. In releases earlier than 21.1, ExtremeXOS included these overhead-bytes during traffic rate-limit and shaping techniques. Now, you can configure overhead-bytes using the configure forwarding rate-limit overhead-bytes <bytes> command.

For example, if the frame size is 68 bytes configuring overhead-bytes of 0, the switch calculates rate-limit and shaping techniques with 68 bytes as the frame size. If 20 is the configured overhead-bytes size, the switch calculates rate-limit and shaping techniques with 88 bytes as the frame size. This configuration is applicable for ingress meters, egress QoS profile, egress port rate-limiting, and rate-shaping configurations.
