Configure the ICMP Router Discovery Table

Before you begin

  • ICMP Router Discovery must be globally enabled.

  • Change the VRF instance as required. For information about how to use EDM for a non-default VRF, see Select and Launch a VRF Context View.

About this task

Configure the ICMP Router Discovery table to ensure correct ICMP operation for all interfaces that use Router Discovery.

Procedure

  1. In the navigation tree, expand the following folders: Configuration > IP.
  2. Click IP.
  3. Click the Router Discovery tab.
  4. Configure the Router Discovery parameters to suit your network.
  5. Click Apply.

Router Discovery field descriptions

Use the data in the following table to use the Router Discovery tab.

Name

Description

Interface

Indicates the VLAN ID or the port.

AdvAddress

Specifies the IP destination address used for broadcast or multicast router advertisements sent from the interface. The address is the all-systems multicast address 224.0.0.1, or the limited-broadcast address 255.255.255.255.

The default value is 255.255.255.255.

AdvFlag

Indicates whether (true) or not (false) the address is advertised on the interface.

The default value is true (advertise address).

AdvLifetime

Specifies the time to-live-value (TTL) of router advertisements (in seconds) sent from the interface. The range is MaxAdvInterval to 9000 seconds.

The default value is 1800 seconds.

MaxAdvInterval

Specifies the maximum time (in seconds) that elapses between unsolicited broadcast or multicast router advertisement transmissions from the interface. The range is 4 to 1800 seconds.

The default value is 600 seconds.

MinAdvInterfal

Specifies the minimum time (in seconds) that elapses between unsolicited broadcast or multicast router advertisement transmissions from the interface. The range is 3 seconds to MaxAdvInterval.

The default value is 450 seconds.

PreferenceLevel

Specifies the preference value (a higher number indicates more preferred) of the address as a default router address relative to other router addresses on the same subnet. The range is –2147483648 to 2147483647.

The default value is 0.
